Did you not get the job you were promised?
Sometimes a recruiter or employer promises you a certain job, salary, or working conditions, but after you arrive, you are given a different job, sent to another employer, paid less, or asked to work under different conditions than you agreed to.
Before you start work, always read your employment contract carefully. It should include:
- your employer’s details and your details,
- your job title and type of work,
- where you will work (or that you will be driving abroad),
- your salary and how it will be paid,
- your working hours,
- your start date,
- any other agreed terms and benefits.
Your employer should explain your working conditions in a language you understand. This information may be included in your employment contract or in a separate document. If you will be posted to another EU country (for example, carrying out cabotage operations), your employer must also tell you about the working conditions there, including your pay.
If your job, salary, or working conditions are very different from what is written in your contract, contact the Labour Inspectorate. If you think you that you may be a victim of labour exploitation or human trafficking, you can ask for help from the Labour Inspectorate, the Police, or organisations that support foreign workers.
