You should know how to recognise the warning signs of human trafficking and labour exploitation. The sooner you realise that your rights may be being violated, the sooner you can get help and prevent further abuse. If one or more of the following situations apply to you, you may be a victim of human trafficking or labour exploitation:

• someone controls where you go or checks your phone,
• someone has taken your passport or other identity documents,
• you are forced or pressured to do work that is not included in your employment contract,
• your job or working conditions are different from what you were promised,
• you do not receive the salary you were promised, or someone else takes your wages,
• you are not allowed to contact your family or friends freely,
• you work very long hours without enough rest and cannot complain,
• you are threatened that if you contact the police or other authorities, you will be arrested or deported,
• you live where you work and are not free to leave,
• you came to Slovakia because of false promises about the job or working conditions,
• you are told that you must repay a debt for your travel, accommodation, or food, and therefore have to keep working,
• you are forced to beg, steal, provide sexual services, or commit other crimes,
• you or your family are threatened if you try to get help,

• you feel that you have no choice and cannot escape your situation.
