As a truck driver, you are obliged to have the following documents:
- your ID documents (passport with a national visa (Type D) showing your employer, or your passport together with your residence permit and the Labour Office approval for your job),
- driving licence,
- driver attestation (provided by your employer),
- medical and psychological fitness certificates,
- copy of the Community Licence (provided by your employer),
- Certificate of Professional Competence (received after completing the required training),
- driver tachograph card,
- vehicle registration certificate (provided by your employer),
- employment contract,
- PDA1 form (provided by your employer),
- if you are a posted driver, a posting declaration and transport documents (e.g. a CMR consignment note), provided by your employer.
Has your employer kept your documents?
Your employer must not keep your personal documents, such as your passport, visa, residence permit, work permit, or driving licence. They may make copies for their records, but the originals belong to you. If your employer keeps your documents or threatens to have you deported, this may be a sign of labour exploitation or human trafficking. You can get help even if you do not want to report the case to the police. If you are in immediate danger or your health or safety is at risk, call the police on 158 or the European emergency number 112. If you have questions about your residence permit, contact the Border and Foreign Police. You can also contact your country’s embassy or consulate in Slovakia.

You should have the documents listed above, or at least copies where appropriate. All documents should be genuine, valid, and up to date. If your employer has not given you the documents you should have, or if you think they are fake, there are different versions of the same document, or you are being told to use expired documents, ask for help.
