Do you use two driver tachograph cards?
Your driver card records your driving and working activities. It is issued only for you, and only you are allowed to use it. Every driver may use only their own valid driver card. Using more than one driver card or using someone else’s driver card is prohibited.
Some drivers are pressured by their employer to use a second driver card, a colleague’s card, or other methods to avoid the rules on driving times and rest periods. However, this is against the law and can have serious consequences for both the driver and the transport company. Authorities in EU Member States regularly check tachographs and driver cards. Modern digital tachographs and control systems can detect irregularities and suspicious use of driver cards.
No one has the right to force you to use a second driver card or someone else’s card. If your employer or anyone else asks you to do this:
- refuse to use another person’s card or a second driver card,
- keep any evidence of instructions or pressure, such as messages, emails, or other communication,
- make a note of the dates and circumstances of each incident,
- never give your driver card to another person,
- contact the relevant enforcement authorities or organisations that provide support to workers.
